Senior Legal Counsel

The Senior Legal Counsel is the head of the corporate legal department and is responsible for the legal affairs of the entire corporation. This role includes providing legal counsel to the board of directors, chairman of the board, chief executive officer and other senior management. The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for regulatory and legal issues faced by blockchain, bitcoin and other virtual currency businesses, complex technology transactions, licensing, payment and financial services matters related to emerging and traditional payment systems, services, and products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • • Support Money Transmission Licenses and other similar related business licenses applications and maintenance as required

  • • Ensure business operates in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements and all international standards relating to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing

  • • Stay current on financial regulations globally that could impact the business model and further growth opportunities

  • • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations

  • • Provide legal support to management and business units regarding applicable laws and regulations and participate in new business process with the business and risk areas

  • • Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues

  • • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights

  • • Design, build and improve legal department processes as we scale deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces

  • • Negotiating, drafting and reviewing of all day-to-day contracts in Global environment and ensure compliance with the relevant authorities

  • • Compliance with data protection and cybersecurity including GDPR knowledge

  • • Understanding and enforcing the law and regulations the company underlies

  • • Maintain current knowledge of alterations in EU legislation

  • • Managing a team of corporate counsel and other members of the legal department

  • • Provide legal support on various ad-hoc projects

Requirements:

  • • Familiarity with FinTech Industry is a plus as well as GDPR certificate

  • • University Degree graduate lawyer

  • • 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney; or 8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney and 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following areas risk, compliance, contracts, government/regulatory, financial services, or technology.

  • • Active License to practice law required.

  • • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written

  • • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment and to tolerate change and ambiguity.

  • • Ability to evaluate impacts based on changes in laws/regulations and develop company response

  • • Ability to take an active role in the education, mentoring and training of less experienced team members

  • • The candidate should preferably have experience working with regulatory licenses and applications, compliance and enforcement matters, complex bank and money transmission regulatory issues, privacy, and cyber security.
